at first I was just going to add a new sill, stick in the new window, and fill in the leftover window frame with siding, but as it became more involved, it made more sense to do it seamlessly.
the new sill was a $2 offcut from home depot, the plywood and underlayment leftover from the roofing job. i reused the old frame, cut down to size.
there had been an old dryer vent to the left of the window, so this was the perfect excuse to fix that piece of siding too. anything that was old or split was cut out.
the new pine siding was easy enough to install, but each had to be ripped in height as it was much deeper. needs to be primed before winter now.
and on the inside, nothing special: 2x4s. plywood, caulk and screws holding it all together.
i added a couple of layers of old ceiling tile, proper fiberglass batting insulation, and then a couple more layers of ceiling tile to insulate before we covered it with the drywall.
the drywall in place, awaiting window frame/trim to be put back on.
