smith and son

mr. and mr. smith came up labor day weekend to install the new 1st kitchen, move the bathtub and help lose some nuts and bolts. all went swimmingly, especially the last bit - some bolts were last seen as far away as keene, nh.

pops takes 10 minutes to pray to allah on his cardboard rug while son assembles an upper cabinet.

the upper cabinets mount to a steel track that is first screwed into the studs. ideally the cabinets were also going to be resting on the wainscoting chair rail too for some (perceived) extra support, but that didn't really work out.

lower cabinets screw into wall/studs (with a little adaptation) and into countertop above. dishwasher had been situated next to window in a previous life but junior suggested this more sensible alternative.

second bank of upper cabinets - fridge will be on left, stove on right (for those of you not familiar with hoods and their purpose).

the dishwasher supply copper pipe hadn't been used in years and turned out to be cruddy, so i hacked it off and teed the inlet from the sink instead. now just need to hook up the sink and mount the last couple of cabinet doors to finish it off.
